If you’re interested in learning more about Shape Note music (and the best way to learn is to start singing yourself!) there are numerous singing groups that meet in Pennsylvania. Some groups meet weekly or monthly, and there are also a number of larger singings during the year; new singers are always welcome, no auditions and no singing experience necessary.

BRANDYWINE VALLEY SACRED HARP SINGING (south of West Chester)

ERIE AREA SINGING: This singing is suspended.
This singing usually meets the fourth Sunday of each month at a local singer’s home
from 2-5 PM. In November, the meeting date is the third Sunday to avoid Thanksgiving,
and in December the date is the second Sunday to avoid the Christmas holidays.

LEHIGH VALLEY SINGING
This singing meets every third Saturday from 3-5:30 PM at the West Side Moravian Church (403 3rd Ave., Bethlehem, PA). (This singing will be on hiatus starting in January 2026.)
They also meet every fourth Tuesday from 6-8 PM at the Godfrey Daniels Listening Room (7 East 4th Street, Bethlehem, PA). Please be aware of Bethlehem’s new parking ordinances and plan accordingly.
(The fourth Tuesday singing will not meet on December 23, 2025.)

This singing meets second Thursdays of each month at Mount Union Church
at the corner of Turkey Foot Trail Road and Mount Union Road, near Rockwood
in Somerset County, PA. In January, February and March they meet at
Kingwood Church of God, Rte 281, south of Somersett (because it’s heated!)
